-New Urban Sounds- Decompress with Music for a Monday Evening, Featuring Blue Note Artist Kandace Springs
The lady's got soul, with jazz and a flair for the classical: Blue Note artist Kandace Springs |
As a musician out of Nashville, she may have been raised in a town that's marinated in western music, but Blue Note artist Kandace Springs has soul music in her DNA. Throughout her life, her dad and mentor Scat Springs sang backup for Brian McKnight, Chaka Khan, Aretha Franklin, Michael McDonald, and Donna Summer, while also fronting his own bands in America's country music capital. Discovered on Okayplayer by Prince in 2016, Kandace first met the artist that would change the trajectory of her music career after he contacted her via social media. After the initial shock of realizing who she was talking to, Prince told her, "All of your dreams are about to come true". He then contacted Capitol records, who informed shortly thereafter that her she was invited to play for his 30th anniversary of Purple Rain.
After signing with Blue Note Records in 2016 Springs released the well received debut album "Soul Eyes". Following her debut, this month Kandace has released “6 8”, a langid, soothing remake of the composition by Gabriel Garzón-Montano. "6 8" follows Springs' previous single “Don’t Need The Real Thing,” and both appear on Kandace’s sophmore album Indigo, a 13-track recording of carefully chosen covers and original composition on Blue Note Records, just released on Friday.
