Just this past week the recap performances have been released for the annual Soul Train Awards honoring excellence and achievement in music for 2018, where the year's honorees Erykah Badu, Faith Evans, and Ledisi presented with awards.

The show was taped in late November in Las Vegas and aired 10 days ago on BET America.   The awards ceremony was hosted by stars of the 90s hit sitcom "Martin" ( and real-life best friends) Tichina Arnold (Everybody Loves Chris) and Tisha Campbell (Empire).

In keeping with the current Renaissance of 90's influence in Black American pop culture, this year's Soul Train awards paid tribute to the sound and aesthetic of the decade - not only highlighting special awards presented to  90s Hip-Hop Soul empress Evans (Lady of Soul Award) and Queen of 90s Neo-Soul Badu (Legend Award)- but in addition to powerhouse min-concerts by Badu & Evans, it also features performances by some of the most popular artists of the era including  Kelly Price, Bell Biv Devoe, Jon B, & Donell Jones. Younger artists performing on the bill included soul heartthrob Luke James, Youtube sensation Queen Naija, and gospel music's newest rising star, Koryn Hawthorne.  Sitting in during this year's Soul Cypher jam session are jazz & alt R&B musicians/producers Robert Glasper & Thundercat.  Artist Ledisi was also presented with a special honor as the winner of the Soul Train Certified Award, and winners in absentia included r&b critical darlings Daniel Caesar and H.E.R., who were unable to attend due to previous commitments.
