-NUY 40+ Grab Bag- Easter Weekend Edition Vol.1: Broken Friendships, False Prophets, and the Change That Will Surely Come

This weekend NUY 40+ will share a Grab Bag for the Easter holiday while we take a short break. We begin by taking a look at our Good Friday selection, "The Undershesapard" by filmmaker Russ Parr. The plot synopsis is as follows:

The Undershepherd is a tale of two ministers, LC (Isaiah Washington) and Roland (Lammon Rucker), best friends & brothers in Christ- both ambitious up and coming ministers who are paying their dues as humble servants in ministry.  Having each other’s backs as they work their way through the ranks at the First Baptist Church, they serve under the leadership of Dr. Ezekial Canon (Bill Cobbs), the church’s well respected but aging pastor. Each friend has dreams of becoming the eighty-year-old’s predecessor.

Elderly Dr. Canon stubbornly refuses to step down, forcing the two young ministers to make pivotal decisions about their futures, decisions that will ultimately fray the fabric of their deeply woven friendship.

Witness the ascension of evil through LC’s eyes as politics, kickbacks, adultery, and cult-like practices become the culture under his leadership.  Witness Roland’s struggle to plant an honest church and pious ministry, which ultimately drives LC further away at a time when Roland needs him most.  Witness the impact their decisions have on the lives of the other church leaders, members of the congregation and the community.
