-New Urban U.S.News - America Mourns the Loss of 2008 Presidential Nominee & Arizona Senator, "Maverick" John McCain (1936-2018)
Wife Cindy McCain kisses the casket of the beloved husband and Arizona Senator John McCain (R) in the state's capitol building before official public viewing. |
He was a war survivor, public servant, and family man. While he had limited use of his arms from being a tortured POW in the late 60s and early 1970s, he also managed to possess an intense ferocity of spirit as a politician that miraculously never betrayed his ability to be honorable in the heat of battle, and his fiery reputation on Capitol Hill was remarkably belied by astute fairness to all Americans in an unwavering commitment to truth as opposed to spin or twisted media narratives. As many may know by now, the Republican Senator and 2008 Republican Presidential candidate John McCain passed away this past weekend after an extended battle with brain cancer where he worked tirelessly until the latest possible phase of the disease. The Senator now lies in state in Arizona as the United States mourns the politician and former White House presidential forerunner who, for the last 31 years has been known as "The Maverick" - a man moved to action by ideals that often reached beyond political partisanship to bridge the gap between parties in American politics- and this week he is being heralded by Republicans and Democrats alike for his service to the country and commitment to serving the American public.
We leave you with a few videos that feebly, but earnestly try to capture the character of who John McCain was and what he represented to many people. Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush were personally chosen by Senator McCain to speak at the memorial ceremony this Saturday taking place at the Vietnam War Memorial. His chosen pallbearers as per his wishes will include close friends former Vice President Joe Biden and actor Warren Beatty. He will be moved to his final resting place in Annapolis this coming Sunday for a 2pm ceremony after a private family funeral at the US Naval Academy.
