On Tuesday in Los Angeles, Marvel Comic's first black superhero movie, "Black Panther" premiered to rave reviews from film critics across America, readying itself for German release this coming February 15th. The sci-fi blockbuster features black top black film stars from the United States, England, South Africa, Kenya, Germany, and the Caribbean island of Tobago, and has a rare 100 percent rating from the collective film review website RottenTomatoes.com.
"Black Panther" takes place in the fictional, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda, in which its newly crowned king, T'Challa is challenged by warring factions within his own country. Thus far, critics have lavished the blockbuster with praise, describing the vehicle as a "nuanced celebration of pride and identity and personal responsibility" (The Hollywood Reporter) that "creates wonder with great flair and feeling" (The New York Times).
Representing Germany in the impressive cast line-up is actress Florence Kasumba, a Ugandan-German actress who resides in Berlin. Other familiar faces from the cast include but are certainly not limited to 2018's Oscar nominee for "Get Out" Daniel Kaluuya (UK), Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong'o (Kenya), 2018 Emmy Award winner Sterling K. Brown (from the internationally acclaimed tv drama "This Is Us"), and Hollywood film veterans Angela Bassett, and Forest Whittaker. Black Panther's superhero is played by Chadwick Boseman, who currently portrays Thurgood Marshall in the acclaimed Netflix biopic, "Marshall", and is previously known for his stirring portrayal of James Brown in the 2014 film "Get On Up".
