-New Urban Sounds- First Listen: The Jazzy Hip-Hop Grooves of Music Collective "August Greene"
August Greene is the supergroup brainchild of Oscar-winning rapper Common, and Grammy award-winning jazz musicians/hip-hop producers Robert Glasper and Karriem Riggins. The group was formed after the three genetlemen won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics for their song "Letter to the Free", from director Ava DuVernay’s critically acclaimed Netflix documentary, "13th". The trio is set to release a self-titled joint album on March 9th through Amazon Music, which has been preceded by a cover of "Optimistic", from gospel group Sounds of Blackness. Auguest Greene's 2018 rendition features R&B singer Brandi, and the album will feauture tracks with additional guest vocalists.
