-New Urban SOUNDS- What We're Listening To Right Now: Young R&B Artists Who Read Music & Play Instruments; Daniel Caesar and H.E.R.
Like the music itself: deeply feeling, mysterious and enigmatic, H.E.R. finally steps out of the shadows into the foreground, much to listeners' delight. |
Remember growing up during a time when R&B music churned out great love duets to underscore the days and nights of summer? Well, while most R&B music charting the airwaves today is not exactly like the days nor standards of old, on our NUY 40+ summer playlists, there are actually a few youngins out there taking the craft of music serious enough to churn out quality material- with melodious tracks that may even live up to the expectations of older generations like our own.

2017 Grammy nominee for Best R&B Artist Daniel Ceasar is one such musician, and on his latest single release, "Best Part", he is joined by fellow songwriter and musician H.E.R. , a reclusive 21-year-old vocalist from California, who, for the better part of her young career, has been an anonymous artist wishing to keep her identity unknown- preferring to only be represented by her music.
With an April television debut on The Jimmy Kimmel Show and the release of the sleeper hit "Best Part" with Ceasar, the singer is finally publicly acknowledged with a birth name (Gabi Wilson) and sweeping television stages worldwide. With their own brand of dreamy, introspective soul music, both artists are ones to watch, and definitely worth a listen on your music playlists for this summer and beyond. Check out the clip below of Daniel Ceasar's recent appearance on the NPR TINY DESK series, featuring H.E.R. and an amazing backup section in an unplugged version of "Best Part".
