-New Urban Sounds- New Releases: Classic Luther Vandross, Reinterpreted
If you love classic 80s soul songs by Luther Vandross, then one of his biggest fans something special in store for you this spring. R&B singer (and Season 2 American Idol winner) Ruben Studdard has just released a tribute to the silky-voiced legend on his newest recording, "Ruben Sings Luther". Studdard is a US military kid born in Germany and raised in Alabama, known across America as "the Velvet Teddy Bear" for his smooth vocals and amiable personality- has always included Luther's work on his previous records since he first began releasing music in 2003, but felt the time was right with this latest outing to share a full tribute recording to one of his favorite vocalists of all time. "Ruben Sings Luther" contains all your favorite Luther songs, with fresh instrumentation and Studdard's trademark velvety vocals that stay true to the original musical arrangements from Vandross, while still allowing Studdard to put his own subtle vocal phrasing and imprint on classics you'll likely know and love. Our favorite cuts on the album are the light and airy "Don't You Know That?" and "So Amazing". The recording also presents Studdard covering Vandross's cover of the 1970s Major Harris classic "Love Won't Let Me Wait", a sample of which is below, sounding just as amorous as ever.
"Ruben Sings Luther" contains ten of Luther Vandross's biggest hits as interpreted by America's Velvet Teddy Bear, including not only love songs, but such uptempo favorites as "Bad Boy/Having a Party" and "Til My Baby Comes Home" and can be purchased via iTunes and Amazon.
